Admiral Ozzel was a time-serving officer in the Imperial Navy. A man more interested in procedure than in achievement, he nevertheless rose to high command, serving aboard Lord Vader’s ship, the Executor.
His blunder in bringing the battle fleet out of lightspeed too close to the Hoth system, and thus requiring a surface attack to finish a Rebel base off, led Lord Vader to comment: “He is as clumsy as he is stupid.” Vader subsequently dispensed with Ozzel’s services, in the most permanent way possible.
